November is Lung Month, and NB Lung is marking the occasion with a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting lung health and raising awareness about the importance of respiratory wellness. As lung health advocates, we are excited to share how we’re engaging our community during this vital month.
Contributing to National Radon Research
We are proud to announce that NB Lung’s ongoing radon testing has contributed to the recently released Cross Canada Radon Report, the largest study ever conducted on radon levels in homes across Canada. Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, is the second leading cause of lung cancer, and our efforts are helping to shape a clearer understanding of its impact on Canadian households.
Radon Mitigation Grant Draw
To further promote radon safety, NB Lung is offering a draw for two $1,000 radon mitigation grants, thanks to a grant from Health Canada. Anyone who purchases a Radon Test Kit from us between November 1, 2023, and November 30, 2024, will automatically be entered into the draw if their home’s radon levels exceed Health Canada’s safety limit. This initiative aims to encourage more people to test their homes and take action if radon levels are too high.
Free Inhaler Spacers for Asthma Patients
Access to respiratory health tools is critical, and we are pleased to offer free inhaler spacers to anyone who needs a replacement for their asthma inhaler medication. Just email us at info@nblung.ca with the subject line “Spacer,” and we’ll send you a replacement at no cost.
Lung Health Trivia Night
On Monday, November 4th, join us at the Picaroons Roundhouse for a fun-filled Lung Health Trivia Night! Enjoy a night of food, drinks, and games with friends, all while supporting our important lung health initiatives. Come out and meet our team! Trivia starts at 7PM.
Weekly Wellness Walks with a Respiratory Therapist
For those looking to stay active and informed, NB Lung continues to host Wellness Walks every Thursday morning at the Willie O’Ree Place Indoor Walking Track in Fredericton. From 9:30 to 10:30 AM, join a Volunteer Respiratory Therapist and other community members for a walk and talk, where you can ask questions about lung health while getting in some light exercise.
1/2 Price Radon Drive, Saturday, November 23rd, 1 pm – 3 pm
We will host a Radon Testing Drive at our office, 132 Main Street, Lower Level parking lot.
Radon Tests will be available for those who can’t come to the office during our regular business hours or who cannot afford the full-price tests.
Community Radon Testing Drives & Radon Events
– When you buy a Radon Test Kit from our charity this November and submit your test by the end of February, you will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 2 x $1000 prizes! Shipping costs & lab testing fees are already included! When you buy from NB Lung you support our essential programming for lung health patients.
We’re doing a number of Community Radon Testing Drives in November, made possible by our generous partners at RPC Labs in Fredericton. With a number of radon test kits donated, we aim to reach even more homes and help protect families from the dangers of radon exposure.
– We’ll be in Perth-Andover on November 5th at the Perth Andover Ultramar (in Carlingford) from 1-4PM for a Community Testing Drive & Information Session (2PM). We’re giving out 100 test kits donated to NB Lung by our friends at RPC Labs in Fredericton. Just show up and receive a free long-term radon testing kit, and learn about the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
– We’re also hosting a Community Testing Drive at the Bilijk First Nation Community Health Centre on November 27th, with test kits donated to the community by RPC Labs.
This Lung Month, NB Lung remains committed to enhancing lung health awareness and supporting our community with education, resources, and events. Together, we can breathe easier and build a healthier future for everyone.
