The Government of New Brunswick is now offering free long-term radon test kits at public libraries across the province — a major step forward for protecting New Brunswickers’ health and homes.
Call Ahead Before You Go
Libraries have received a limited number of test kits, and they’ve been going quickly. Before visiting your local branch, call ahead to make sure kits are still available. Supplies will be replenished, but availability may vary from region to region.
NB Lung’s Role in Radon Awareness
For years, NB Lung has led the charge in raising awareness about radon — a naturally occurring, invisible gas that’s the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
Before the provincial program was launched, we partnered with libraries, government offices, and real estate agents across the province to lend out electronic radon detectors for short-term use. This “Radon Library Lending Program” allowed New Brunswickers to borrow a monitor, test their home, and return it for the next family.
That lending program is no longer active, and the new Government of New Brunswick library program is entirely separate from NB Lung. However, some of our original lending kits (containing an electronic testing kit) are still available at a few select partner locations. You can find the full list and details on our Radon Lending Program page.
Our work in radon awareness and advocacy continues in memory of Angela, whose story of loss and courage inspired so many to take action. Through the Angela’s Allies Fund, NB Lung is able to continue her legacy — funding community education, advocacy, and programs that help protect New Brunswickers from radon exposure.
It’s thanks to people like Angela, and the community that has rallied in her name, that real change is happening — from household awareness to government programs like this one.

Why Testing Matters – Before & After Mitigation
Every home in New Brunswick is at risk for radon — and the only way to know your level is to test. With the province’s new free kit program, there’s no better time to take action.
But testing is only step one. Every New Brunswicker deserves support to make their home safe if high radon levels are found. The government has promised to take action on radon mitigation — and we’re holding them to it.
Whether you pick up a kit at your local library, borrow one from one of our remaining lending locations, or purchase your own, testing your home could save a life.
