Canada votes on April 28, and your lungs are on the ballot.

From rising wildfire smoke, to radon gas in our homes, to the ongoing harms of nicotine addiction—your vote can make a real difference for lung health in New Brunswick and across the country.

That’s why we’re standing alongside the National Lung Health Alliance (NLHA) and urging every voter to make lung health a top priority this election.

What’s at Stake?

Lung disease is one of Canada’s biggest health issues—affecting 1 in 5 Canadians—yet it remains one of the most underfunded and overlooked areas of medicine. Whether it’s asthma, COPD, lung cancer, or long COVID, far too many people are struggling to breathe.

Meanwhile, climate change is accelerating the threats. Wildfire smoke, heatwaves, and indoor air pollutants like radon are making it even harder to breathe safely in our homes and communities.

We need action—now.

NLHA’s Key Message: Breathing Belongs on the Ballot

The National Lung Health Alliance has launched a national campaign to:

✅ Urge all federal parties to commit to ending the sale of commercial tobacco and nicotine products to future generations
✅ Call for a national lung disease strategy
✅ Support better access to treatment, screening, and health services
✅ Expand protections from environmental risks like air pollution and radon

Not Sure Who to Vote For?

That’s okay—what matters is voting your values. Use Vote Compass to explore how your views line up with party platforms.

And don’t forget: NB Lung has created our own Advocacy Tools so you can see exactly what we’re calling for here at home & send a letter to your local representative.

Accessible Voting for People with Lung Disease

Living with a lung condition shouldn’t prevent you from voting. You can vote by mail—just request your ballot by April 22: Register to vote by mail

Some hospitals and long-term care facilities also offer mobile polling stations. We recommend voting early and wearing a high-quality mask. Need one? Request a free N95 mask from NB Lung

After You Vote: Keep Building the Movement

By pledging to “vote with your lungs,” you’re joining a growing movement to make sure the health of Canadians—and the air we breathe—never falls off the political radar.

Let’s keep the pressure on. Let’s keep lungs on the agenda. And let’s keep breathing easier—together.
