Every fall, a few things return like clockwork — cooler weather, pumpkin everything, and unfortunately, RSV season.
If you’re a parent to a newborn or an infant under six months old, now is the time to get informed about RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and how to protect your little one this season.
What Is RSV?
RSV is a common respiratory virus that affects nearly all children by their second birthday. In fact:
- 2 out of 3 babies get RSV in their first year of life.
- It spreads easily and typically causes cold-like symptoms, but in severe cases, it can lead to serious lung infections like bronchiolitis or pneumonia.
- Babies born prematurely or have underlying heart/lung conditions are at higher risk of complications
Protection Available This Fall
As of October 2025, a RSV immunization option is available for infants and adults 75+ as part of the 2025–26 RSV season. If your child is under 6 months old, or you are 75+, now is the time to talk to your healthcare provider.
Parents have access to a preventive option specifically designed to help shield babies from RSV during the peak season. Learning about RSV and taking action this fall could be a critical step in protecting your baby’s health.
Speak with a healthcare provider (such as pharmacists, registered nurses, family general practitioners) today about how to protect your infant this RSV season.
